MISSION | PHILOSOPHY

The Sonny Parker Youth Foundation (SPYF) is a not-for-profit, community-based, organization located in Chicago, Illinois. The SPYF was founded in 1990 by, former NBA player of the Golden State Warriors, Sonny Parker. Sonny Parker, who is a native of Chicago, is giving something back to the community it serves with the support of others involved.

SPYF was born from the concerns of individual regarding the future of today's young people. SPYF provides year round, educational, recreational, and multi-cultural enrichment programs for inner-city youth grades K-12. These youths, who are challenged daily with environmental pressures (i.e., drug abuse, gang violence, family instability, economy deprivation and peer pressure) and who are often faced with a lack of sufficient inner resources, can develop feelings of helplessness and low self-esteem.

SPYF has developed a year-round academic and sports program that is held after school and on weekends. The programs include tutoring, ACT/SAT preparation, youth forum, parents workshops, job training, mentoring, leadership, career planning and physical education.

SPYF's trained staff of qualified professionals and volunteers supervised and implement all programs. Through the use of these programs, SPYF seeks to raise reading scores and improve writing and test-taking skills. It is through improvement in these three key areas that we can prepare our youth to become more productive citizens of society.

SPYF is determined to succeed, by combining its own hard work with the efforts of parents, community, and businesses (both private and public). SPYF is committed to the serious business of saving our children, our community and our future, and it will not stop in its pursuit of excellence and success for today's young people.
